9 Natural Remedies for Eczema and Dry Skin

Having eczema and dry skin can be a complete downer for any season. In the summer, you are forced with having to either show your dry, scaly, or red and patchy skin, or be forced to wear long sleeves and jeans in the sweltering sun. In the winter you are forced to wear long sleeves and sweaters which can cause irritation to your already dry damaged skin. Fortunately, there are plenty of natural remedies for eczema and dry skin that won’t force you to make a trip to the doctor, and doesn’t involve steroid creams that thin the skin over time. Here are 9 natural remedies for eczema and dry skin that will leave your skin baby soft, healthy, and well nourished.

1. Flaxseed oil

Flaxseed oil is loaded with fatty acids that help eliminate eczema. One of the fatty acids in flaxseed oil is alpha-linolenic acid, which helps  to decrease inflammation. Flax seed oil works great when applied directly to the skin and can be given internally to babies and adults suffering with eczema, psoriasis, or extremely dry skin. A teaspoon a day is sufficient in helping to heal dry skin disorders.

2. Olive oil

Olive oil is another very effective oil when dealing with dry skin conditions. Olive oil helps to soothe irritated skin, as well as helps alleviate redness. A teaspoon of olive oil can be applied to the bath, to ensure that the skin is still nourished even when being dried out by water and sometimes soaps. Outside of the bath, olive oil can also be applied directly to the skin. It is best to put oatmeal in a cheese cloth then tie the cheese cloth  so no oatmeal is able to fall out. Adding the oatmeal inside of a cheese cloth prevents  a huge mess in your tub. Next tie the cheese cloth bag underneath the faucet in the tub and allow the water to run over the cheesecloth, while your bath is filling up with water. Once your bath is full take the now wet bag of oatmeal and rub it over your skin while bathing. This method helps aid in soothing irritated, dry skin.

5. Diet

As much as creams, lotions and even natural oils can help, a lot of times the problem is coming from within, dairy, wheat, sugars, and spicy foods are often triggers for people with eczema. Try to eliminate these foods as much as possible from your diet and replace them with fresh fruit, vegetables, and plenty of water, and watch how your skin changes.

6.Organic African Shea Butter

Shea butter is a great healer for many different skin and hair conditions, and eczema and dry skin is on the list.
